All students who will be in sixth grade school year 2010-2011 must receive a "booster dose" of tetanus and diphtheria toxoids and accellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap) at 11 or 12 years of age. This is a new health department requirement. Students will not be enrolled in sixth grade without this vaccination.

The Alabama Department of Public Health encourages parents to get their child immunized now to avoid long waits at health department clinics at registration time. This requirement will escalate by one successive grade each year for the following 6 years to include sixth through twelfth grades, beginning fall of 2016.
