Congressman Jo Bonner personally welcomed the group of over 90 World War II veterans to the nation's capitol on Wednesday, Bonner was quoted, "Your bravery and patriotism continue to inspire the generations that have followed you and have enjoyed the freedoms that you and your comrades fought to protect.  We can never repay the debt we owe to you for the preservation of our liberty."

Perdido Elementary/Middle School has participated in the fund raising efforts to sponsor WWII Veterans trip to Washington D.C. to visit the WWII Memorial built in their honor.  The veterans also tour the Korean and Vietnam Memorials while on the trip. Students have raised money with out-of-uniform days, donations from PAC, Perdido's Graduation Committee, private donations made in memory of former student, PFC Bruce Ferrell USMC and PFC Russell Stewart USMC.  Perdido School has raised enough money to send over 8 veterans on the South Alabama Honor Flight.
